FRIDA AND DIEGO: The Dove and the Elephant written by Prasad Paul Duffy is a two-character play that explores the passionate, turbulent relationship of legendary Mexican painters Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. From their early years in San Francisco, Detroit and New York, the play follows the two fiercely independent artists struggling to reconcile love, ambition, politics, infidelity and the demands of their art. As Frida emerges from the shadow of her celebrated husband to become an artist in her own right, their unconventional marriage is tested, broken and ultimately reinvented. Drawn from their extraordinary lives, letters and writings, FRIDA AND DIEGO: The Dove and the Elephant is an intimate portrait of two artists who discovered they could neither live together nor remain apart.
